We are Kelly and Bill. An elementary music teacher and a training manager who are determined to become financially independent through frugal living and personal finance obsession. How did a teacher and a training manager discover a passion for finance? Well I’m glad you asked (and even if you didn’t, I am going to tell you anyway) It all started when we got married in 2008. We bought a condo, got 2 cats, were finishing up college and thought we were invincible. All the while disregarding the fact that we were being slammed with student loans, now had a mortgage and we were racking up credit card debt faster than you can drink a bottle of pepto bismol at a chili cook-off.

It took us a while to realize, “crap! We need to act like adults now!” Yes, we did need to act like adults but had no idea how to do it. We would look at our bank statement each month and wonder where all the money had gone. It wasn’t until we signed up for a course called Financial Peace University by Dave Ramsey that we started to gain control over our finances. From that point on, our interest in saving and debt reduction began to grow. We wanted to learn everything we could about saving, investing and especially retirement! We couldn’t get our hands on enough finance books and we found ourselves craving to learn everything we could about money management.

We were determined to pay off all of our debt so we could begin looking toward financial independence. So, beginning in March of 2016, through side hustles, frugal living, and pure determination, we paid off $60,000 in student loans, car loans and credit cards! After a full year of pedal to the metal will power, hours upon hours of hard work and skipping Bath and Body Works candle day that year, we were officially debt free!!!
